Many of the places in which you now see at the intersection Of Notre Dame and Skyway were not always originally there. One of the sites that you automatically see when you’re arriving to the intersection is the Butte College. The college was not always originally there, in fact it is quite new to the area. Some of the older stores in which surround the area are those such as Raley’s, Ross and even TJ Maxx, those are a few of the older stores. The intersection of Notre Dame and Skyway is still under going construction. Along with that, I will also be talking about what the city of Chico is doing to invest in more companies and who will being payed for them to be put in this area in which is starting to improve for the better, considering that now it is useful for a various amount of reasons. The city of Chico has had quite the history when it comes to the intersection of Notre Dame and Skyway.
It is no surprise that one of the oldest places at the intersection of Notre Dame and Skyway is Mcdonald’s. Mcdonald’s has been at the intersection since 1991. Mcdonald’s replaced an old abandoned restaurant in which was no longer in use for the area. It was highly supported by the city of Chico as the vote for was a 46-0 ratio. The Mcdonald’s was believed to be a good source of revenue for the city as well as a convenient place considering that at that time, there wasn’t much at the intersection. This would also get rid of this ugly building that was no longer used with something that would be used and renovated to look modern.
In the year 2006, there was a block on the proposed raid which was to get rid of the huge homeless population in which were camping in that area. Although, the mayor did not allow for this incident to occur at all. This was something that had occured in Fresno and the city of Chico did not want to be known for the exact same thing so they decided to try and find other methods to deal with the whole homeless problem situation. Although, one of the issues is that the homeless shelter currently only holds around 225 people and there are 8000 homeless in the city of Chico. The sue that happened prohibited the city from being allowed to go in and raid the city. There are still some issues because some of the homeless’s belongings were taken from them.
In another story, Cal Java was looking to have some competition considering that a brand new starbucks was set to open in 2014. Cal Java has been in the Raley’s parking lot since the year 1986. Starbucks was approved by the city of Chico to be built on the intersection of Notre Dame and Skyway in 2014 and immediately after the construction of the coffee shop took place right after. This replaced an old bank which was no longer in use and unlike Cal Java, the Starbucks would have a drive thru which was a lot more convenient for people. This of course caused for Cal Java to loose business which it in fact did. This caused for the owners to move the location of Cal Java and so they are now called Coffee Co.
Although the intersection has been drastically improved, it can be noted that the city of Chico still had future plans to help expand the intersection of Notre dame and Skyway. In fact, they are hoping to replace country waffles with Panda Express which would bring in much more revenue considering that it would be more frequently used. Along with that, they had hopes of building a new hotel in which would not only bring more tourists, but also more jobs considering that workers would be needed in order to build the infastructure. Overall, the intersection of Skyway and Notre Dame has gradually continued to grow for the better of Chico.
